Shifting Approaches to Recruitment Amid a Global Talent Crunch

Companies have had to re-evaluate talent acquisition strategies to navigate the disparity between the skills employers need and the availability of skilled candidates in the market because of shifting attitudes towards work.

The most effective recruitment strategies in 2022

JAC Recruitment recently conducted a survey of our digital community to gain insight into the current landscape of the most successful hiring practices.

Which recruitment strategy did you find most effective

The survey results revealed a lean towards employee retention strategies to fill key positions, with respondents selecting upskilling existing employees (37%) and promoting internal staff (23%). Challenging macro conditions and the intense war for talent—an inescapable feature—have led companies to look inward and invest in developing existing talent.

Despite this, the survey results still indicated that the demand for external talent acquisition remained strong, with 28% indicating that hiring permanent staff remained the most effective and 12% indicating that the acquisition of contract and interim staff was an effective solution to filling key positions.

Evaluating your needs and selecting the best method for your unique needs

Upskilling, enhancing retention, and improving engagement are important long-term strategies. The challenges are in scaling this solution for larger organisations, as it requires significant investment in both time and resources to train or re-train an employee.

Attracting and recruiting candidates from outside the organisation allows companies to directly access experts in their field who can quickly contribute their expertise to the organisation. Hiring experts can also bring in new ideas and perspectives based on their experience and knowledge.

An often-overlooked solution to bridge the talent gap is acquiring contract and interim staff. This approach allows employers to bring in more flexible candidates with specific experience, which can be beneficial for ongoing projects and adaptability to changing business needs. It can be a cost-effective and practical solution for companies when they need to bring in specialised skills or expertise in a short time.
