Key Responsibilities for Senior Cost Accounting Manager
- Develop the inventory costing methodology and oversee labor and overhead allocation for the company's inaugural commercial product, ensuring adherence to GAAP.
- Create and implement cost management procedures, utilizing appropriate methodologies to track and report costs associated with business activities such as cost of goods sold, inventory, and labor usage.
- Represent Accounting in enhancing the inventory and cost module within Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to establish processes ensuring accurate and timely reporting of inventory data.
- Lead the month-end close process, including journal entry preparation, reconciliation, and analysis of cost of goods sold, inventory valuation, balances, adjustments, and reserves.
- Provide senior management with clear, concise analyses of monthly actual COGS and inventory results, prepare periodic COGS forecasts and budgets, and develop comprehensive monthly budget vs. actual variance reports.
- Partner with Engineering and Supply Chain departments to ensure accuracy of Bill of Materials, understanding the financial impact of cost reductions.
- Plan and oversee cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
- Develop procedures for assessing inventory reserves.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures for inventory and related accounts.
- Document manufacturing accounting controls, processes, and procedures, ensuring compliance with SOX 404.
- Collaborate with Senior Manager, Accounting on quarterly and annual supplemental financial disclosures and analyses (e.g., significant purchase commitments, vendor expenditures, embedded derivative assessments).
- Undertake additional responsibilities and ad-hoc projects as necessary.
Key Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in accounting, including direct involvement in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to engage as a strategic partner and communicate effectively with senior management.
- Demonstrated history of success and progressive responsibility.
- Self-motivated, capable of performing effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in process improvement initiatives.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; familiarity with Word, PowerPoint, and Dynamics 365 ERP is advantageous.
